Wall stickers

Vinyl wall stickers, also called decals, are an easy way to change the look of a room without paint or wallpaper.

Our shop is closed, so our stickers aren't available to buy at the moment. This guide is here for anyone who already has one.

Choosing a size

Measure the wall and mark out the area with masking tape before you choose. Leave some clear space around the design. It usually looks better than filling the wall edge to edge. Remember to allow for light switches, sockets and furniture.

Applying a wall sticker

  1. Make sure the surface is clean, dry and smooth. Freshly painted walls should be left to cure for at least two to three weeks first.
  2. Position the sticker, still on its backing, and hold it in place with masking tape along the top edge to form a hinge.
  3. Lift the sticker and slowly peel the backing paper away, keeping the vinyl stuck to the clear transfer tape.
  4. Lower it onto the wall and smooth it down from the centre outwards with a card or squeegee.
  5. Peel the transfer tape off slowly, folding it back on itself at a sharp angle. If any vinyl lifts, press it back down and try again.

Removing a wall sticker

Warm the vinyl gently with a hairdryer to soften the adhesive, then lift a corner with your fingernail and peel it back slowly, close to the wall. Any leftover residue usually comes off with warm, soapy water. Test on a small area first if your paint is delicate.

Looking after it

Wipe with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and don't apply stickers in bathrooms or kitchens where they will be splashed often unless the vinyl is designed for it.
